Model Overview

The JAC Yiwei Huaxianzi is an all-electric microcar under JAC Group, positioned as a premium urban runabout. The model has undergone a relatively intricate evolution: its predecessor, the Sehol E10X, was launched on 28 March 2021 by Sehol—a joint-venture brand between JAC and Volkswagen. Serving as JAC Volkswagen’s inaugural entry into the A00-segment pure EV market, the E10X was priced between RM39,900 and RM75,900 across seven variants, offering three range options of 150 km, 200 km, and 302 km. In November 2021, the Sehol E10X Huaxianzi variant was officially introduced, establishing an independent product branch. On 10 June 2024, following JAC Motors' strategic realignment for new energy vehicles, the Huaxianzi was integrated into the newly established "JAC Yiwei" brand, and the Zhi'ai Edition was officially launched in two variants—Air and Lite—priced at RM65,900 and RM59,900 respectively, delivering a CLTC electric range of 301 km. The Huaxianzi features a 5-door, 5-seater layout, making it a rare offering in the microcar segment. As of June 2024, cumulative global sales for the Huaxianzi series have reached 200,000 units across 37 countries and regions. Notably, in December 2023, JAC Yiwei partnered with HiNa Battery to unveil the world's first sodium-ion battery-powered Huaxianzi, with customer deliveries commencing in January 2024.

This 5-door, 5-seater configuration ensures daily practicality while retaining excellent city agility. At the rear, the car features meander-pattern ("回"-shaped) tail lamp clusters with dual C-shaped smoked lenses, complemented by a U-shaped lower bumper trim that mirrors the front styling. For exterior paintwork, the Huaxianzi Zhi'ai Edition offers four heritage-inspired shades: Bamboo Green, Vine Purple, Snow White, and Light Ink, along with an optional dual-tone finish featuring a black roof. Buyers can choose from three floral-themed wheel rim/cover designs—Bauhinia, Clover, and Clivia—enhancing its youthful flair.
Inside the cabin, the Huaxianzi Zhi'ai Edition carries over the interior styling of the Sehol Huaxianzi, with the steering wheel emblem updated to the JAC badge. The dashboard features a symmetrical layout anchored by a floating digital instrument cluster and a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment display comparable in size to a full-sized iPad Pro, powered by a high-performance hexa-core CPU, 1920×1080 HD resolution, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of onboard storage. A Mercedes-Benz-style column-mounted gear selector frees up centre console space, creating a more open and airy feel between the front occupants. The wide, flat dashboard incorporates an open lower storage tier for added convenience, with selected higher-spec variants adding a wireless smartphone charging pad. Seating appointments comprise two-tone fabric upholstery on the Lite Edition and upgraded integrated faux-leather sport seats on the Air Edition.
Powertrain and Performance
The Huaxianzi Zhi'ai Edition is driven by a front-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 36 kW (approx. 49 PS) and 110 Nm of torque, achieving a top speed of 102 km/h. Energy is supplied by an LFP (lithium iron phosphate) honeycomb battery pack provided by Gotion High-tech / Huating, with a capacity of 30.2 kWh and a CLTC-rated electric range of 301 km. The vehicle supports DC fast charging, taking just 0.7 hours (30% to 80% SoC) to minimise charging downtime. An Electric Hill Assist (EHA) system is fitted as standard across the range to ensure smooth incline getaways. Performance-wise, the vehicle is tailored strictly for city commuting; the 49 PS output handles low-speed urban duties adequately, though highway overtaking headroom remains limited. Average energy consumption is rated at approximately 11.1 kWh/100 km, with a fuel-equivalent consumption of 1.26 L/100 km. The battery has an energy density of 141.7 Wh/kg and features a low-temperature heating system to support cold-weather range retention.
Chassis and Handling
The Huaxianzi is built on a monocoque chassis with a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) setup. Suspension hardware consists of front MacPherson struts and a rear semi-independent torsion beam—a conventional setup for the microcar class. Steering duties are handled by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system calibrated for light and effortless manoeuvring during urban parking and tight-corner navigation. For stopping power, the vehicle employs front ventilated discs and rear solid discs, paired with a standard Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with an integrated Park switch. Drivers can toggle between three drive modes: Standard, Eco, and Long Range, while a standard regenerative braking system modulates energy recovery based on driving habits and road conditions to extend range. Ground clearance stands at 125 mm, with a kerb weight of 1,100 kg. The car rides on 165/65 R14 tyres, fitted with steel wheels on the Lite Edition and upgraded alloy wheels on the Air Edition. The chassis setup is tuned for comfort, catering well to paved urban roads.
Cabin and Equipment
The Huaxianzi Zhi'ai Edition’s cabin centres around an AI-driven smart experience, running the Yiwei OS infotainment system pre-loaded with apps like iQIYI, Kuwo Music, Ximalaya, and AutoNavi Maps. It also supports a customisable Huaxianzi voice assistant avatar capable of continuous voice recognition and interruptible commands. A dedicated mobile app provides remote connectivity, including door unlocking, power window control, cabin pre-cooling/heating, and scheduled charging. The higher-spec Air Edition adds keyless entry, whereas the Lite Edition uses a standard remote key. Across the range, standard features include cruise control, push-button start, a multifunction steering wheel, anti-glare rear-view mirror, electric air conditioning, and a PM2.5 and pollen filtration system, with the Air Edition exclusively adding a wireless phone charger. The rear bench features a 60:40 split-folding backrest for versatile boot space expansion. All four doors feature power windows with one-touch down on the driver's side, alongside power-adjustable and heated wing mirrors. Higher variants also feature a 360-degree panoramic camera to simplify tight parking manoeuvres.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety receives solid consideration in the Huaxianzi. On the passive safety front, the body structure incorporates a high-strength safety cage comprising 53.8% high-strength steel, bolstered by dual front and rear anti-collision beams; a kerb weight of 1,100 kg contributes to high-speed cruising stability. Occupant protection includes standard dual front airbags across the range, fulfilling essential baseline requirements for the class. Active safety systems include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Override System (BOS), Electric Hill Assist, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS warning), and automatic post-collision door unlocking. Battery safety stands out as a core highlight: the proprietary honeycomb battery utilizes a "quad-proof" protection design against abrasions, impacts, water ingress, and internal short circuits, successfully passing rigorous nail penetration, overcharge, and single-cell thermal runaway tests to achieve zero thermal propagation and non-spontaneous combustion. In terms of ADAS, the vehicle does not feature Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, focusing instead on practical urban essentials such as cruise control, a reverse camera, and an optional 360-degree camera on the Air Edition.
Market Performance and Evaluation
The Huaxianzi series has seen contrasting fortunes in domestic and international markets. In export markets, JAC Motors has successfully leveraged its overseas distribution network to ship significant volumes to West Asia and South America, establishing presence in 37 countries and regions. In February 2024, JAC Group exported 10,000 vehicles, with Huaxianzi units making up 5,000 of the total. By June 2024, the series reached a milestone of 200,000 cumulative units produced globally. However, in the Chinese domestic market, sales have remained lacklustre. Full-year 2024 domestic sales stood at just 656 units, with December's 599 units primarily representing concentrated fleet deliveries. Monthly sales remained subdued throughout 2025, dropping to a solitary 1 unit in January 2026. A key factor is the Zhi'ai Edition’s starting price of RM59,900, which struggles for competitiveness in a fiercely contested micro-EV market where rivals like the Leapmotor T03 start from RM49,900 while offering superior motor output, battery capacity, and tech equipment. Furthermore, the fledgling JAC Yiwei brand faces hurdles in brand recognition and market penetration, recording a modest brand-wide monthly sales volume of just 159 units in October 2025. Internal cannibalisation also exists against the slightly larger Yiwei 3 Zhi'ai Edition (priced from RM69,900). Additionally, real-world energy consumption figures of around 16–19 kWh/100 km on certain production batches exceed updated regulatory thresholds, putting pressure on the model to either undergo technical revisions or be phased out. Serving as a transitional model in JAC Motors' new energy roadmap, the Huaxianzi faces an uphill battle to regain domestic market momentum.
